Sovereign is the latest generation phacomachine as of now. Working on microprocessor based technology, it allows the use of high vacuum during surgery. The use of vacuum of upto 500 mm Hg helps reduce the energy required for Phacoemulsification. This leads to reduced surgery time, less trauma to the eye tissues, less post operative reaction leading to faster visual recovery and allows even very advanced cataract to be removed by phaco itself. This machine also has non-contaminant tubings which reduce the incidence of infection. Although this phaco machine’s cost is five times the cost of an ordinary phaco machine, Nethradhama Superspeciality Eye Hospital has installed the same keeping in mind the extraordinary procedural safety it offers.

The first of its kind in South India, the Sovereign Machine uses the white star or Sonolase technology (cold ultrasonic energy) which prevents any thermal damages to the eye and provides for cataract removal through 1 mm opening (Microphacoemulsification). This can be followed by the implantation of an ultrathin IOL or a rollable IOL through this small opening.
