Dear Friends,
Greetings to all our well-wishers once again. Nethradhama is extremely happy and
proud to inform all our friends that we have become the first eye hospital in India
to be conferred with the
ISO 9001:2008 certification. While the previous ISO certification focused on quality
within the hospital and its processes, the new standards also focus on the outsourced
processes in service delivery. This ensures that the hospital monitors the quality
of services provided by the outsourced processes, such as Opticals. It is also a
matter of pride for us that our optical showroom, Suman opticals, was awarded the
“Best Showroom for Varilux progressive Lens” by Essilor for the year
2008.

Continuous Quality improvement is a mantra which Nethradhama swears by, and we strive
to achieve excellence in all aspects of patient care. Patient information and education
is one of our main focus areas and every individual is cared for by the team of
doctors, counselors and coordinators, offering personalized care. We believe that
our emphasis on quality & safety helps us to sail through all the external quality
audits.
Our annual report day, held in May 2009, offered us an opportunity to evaluate ourselves
with respect to the results of our medical care and patient satisfaction, in the
previous financial year. We have come quite a long way from when we started 16 years
ago to now when we have become the first super speciality eye hospital in India
to gain both the NABH and ISO 9001:2008 certification. We hope to continue in this
same spirit of constant improvement.
This issue contains news of recent happenings at Nethradhama along with a write-up
about Conjunctivitis (Madras eye). We wish you happy reading.
Regards,
Editorial committee.

CONJUNCTIVITIS (MADRAS EYE) |
|
An infection of the membranous covering of the eye called conjunctiva is medically
termed “conjunctivitis”, known commonly as “Madras eye”.
Conjunctivitis is characterized by redness & irritation of eyes, with or without
discharge. Infectious conjunctivitis can be caused by bacterial or viral microorganisms.
Conjunctivitis is contagious, i.e. it spreads by touch, and hence, proper hand hygiene
is very important whenever a person is affected by this disease.
Avoiding touching of eyes, frequent hand-washing and isolation of personal towels/
kerchiefs are essential measures to be taken whenever an outbreak of conjunctivitis
is around. Severe infection of the eyes may require antibiotic eye drops and other
measures to get symptomatic relief. The vast majority of patients affected with
conjunctivitis do not suffer from any visual damage.
