Postgraduate Training Programmes

Post-Graduate training is an integral part in Nethradhama Eye Care Model.  It offers candidates excellent opportunities for developing their skills in a high volume clinical setting.

All post-graduate students will undergo training in a structured manner in each respective Speciality.  They are trained to prepare full case sheets for presentation in the presence of senior consultants.  The students are posted in OPD, wards and Operation theatres, and as a result, they are exposed to all facets of treatment pre-operative, surgical and post-operative.  They are provided guidance in surgery and in using the hi-tech equipments and technologies.  They are encouraged to participate in the various ongoing research projects of the institute and to present papers at ophthalmic conferences.

During the course, there is ample opportunity for residents to handle general ophthalmic cases independently and consult with the faculty of various subspecialties in related ophthalmic diseases. This enables them to draw upon the expertise of various specialists. They also have an opportunity to perform surgeries independently, and follow up on surgical cases.

Residents are also required to review the medical records of patients in the hospital and present a summary of the case history.

Seminars, symposium, workshops, didactic lectures, patient education programs, case presentations and CME are all part of the regular post-graduate teaching programmes.  Candidate's performance is regularly assessed through theoretical and practical examinations by all individual departments.  Log books are to be maintained by the residents.  Candidates participate in the Community outreach programme by attending camps as part of their post-graduate training programmes.
